Cat Diabetes Symptoms
Unfortunately, our cats rarely tell us when they are feeling unwell. Instead on relying on them to let us know that something is wrong, we have to look for the symptoms of cat diabetes. Since cat diabetes is fairly common in cats, it's important to know the feline diabetes symptoms so you can get help right away.
Feline diabetes is most common in cats six years or older, and more males cats have the condition than females. Obesity in cats is another factor of diabetes, so watch your overweight cats more closely.
The
first symptom that you may notice if your cat has diabetes is an increase in
urine. Your diabetic cat loses glucose along with water.
Because of this increase, the diabetic cat drinks more.
Your cat's change in appetite is another symptom of diabetes. This is usually a decrease in appetite. Your cat may also lose weight. Other things to look out for include lethargy, poor coat condition, and depression.
Many of these symptoms can be symptoms for other feline illnesses as well. Your vet will have to do tests to determine what is wrong with your cat. It's important that you get your cat to the vet right away when you suspect that something is wrong.
Cat diabetes is treatable, but can be fatal if it is left untreated. Depression, vomit, and rapid breathing are signs of advanced and untreated diabetes. Left untreated, the cat would stop urinating and eventually die.
Fortunately, it is easy to spot the symptoms of diabetes and most owners realize their cat is ill during the beginning stages of diabetes.
