Find a Pet Sitter

long haired catDeveloping a backup plan before you need it is one of the best things you can do for your diabetic cat.  We can plan our vacations, but we cannot plan our emergencies.  Who will care for your diabetic cat if you are unable to get home in time for a shot or have to leave town for a few days?

If you live in a large city, you may be able to find a pet sitter who is experienced at caring for cats with cat diabetes.  Try to find recommendations from other diabetic feline owners.  The cat sitter should know how to give the shots and what signs to look for.  You also want to find an individual who is good with your cat.  They don't need to be best friends, but you want your cat to be as least stressed as possible.

One good place to look for help is at your vet's office.  See if any of the vet tech's offer pet sitting services, and who they trust their animals with when they go away.  If you prefer boarding your cat to in home care, a vet's boarding facility is probably the best option for you.

If you already have good pet sitters that you trust, ask them if they would be comfortable caring for a diabetic cat.  You can train them to give your cat shots and how to monitor the cat.

Finding a trustworthy pet sitter for a healthy cat is difficult enough.  Finding one for a special needs cat can take even more time and effort.  By finding an emergency caregiver before you need one, you'll be ensuring your cat's safety and reducing your stress levels.
